Hi everyone,
My name is Kevin and I am living in Virginia at the present time with my mother. I am a recovering alcoholic and I was evicted from my house in Kansas in 2004. I cannot find a job here and I hate the mountains and the cold. I do not want to stay here. I have talked to the Salvation Army people in Jacksonville Florida about going in to their mens alcohol treatment center there for 8 or 9 months.
Does anyone know about this place? From what they tell me its a good place however you have to work in their stores for your room and board and this gives you no chance to find a job. I am not lazy or anything I just need a fresh start and I thought Florida might be a good place to get a fresh start on life. I have some telemarketing and aircraft assembly experience and I can do alot of things...I am fearful however..I have a car and some other stuff....my computer, tools etc. I just need a chance and no one around here will hire me...I am very depressed and I want out of here....any input would be appreciated...

Hello Kevin and welcome to the forum.:) Sorry I must have missed your post previously but anyways I'm glad I caught you online. We have a member involved in the Jacksonville community who might be able to answer your questions. You could send him a personal message or use the email link.
His profile is http://forums.homeless.org.au/member.php?u=1055 He hasn't been online for a while but it can't hurt to try.

I'm not sure about in the US but the Salvation Army rehabilition programmes here in Australia are inhouse treatment for 32 weeks. You are expected to work in their stores and attend AA, NA or GA mettings and attend their church services. During the majority of those eight months you are basically prevented from leaving the site of the programme. You can get leave passes for a day or weekend at about the five month stage but to remain in the programme continue to reside at the site continuing the treatment.

I hope this helps and if you post an introduction in the New members thread you may get more responses and more suggestions.
