HI all!
I'm 17 years old and living in Ontario Canada
I am currently living at home, and will be kicked out by my parents before or just after summer starts. I really have no idea what to do except finish my education and make the best of it afterwards, I may be able to couch surf for a while, but that seems highly unlikely in my area. I'm also thinking of backpacking or hiking in or around nearby woods, would anyone have any area where to get or how to make pack frames? Or any other advice someone may be able to offer me.
Thanks, Okt

Finish your education and make the best of it after sounds good. Getting a job, any job to get income enough to rent somewhere seems to be the obvious added spice needed for your cooking. Be more specific... you know when this will happen? why? When does summer start where you are?

Oh, p.s. welcome to the forums.

Welcome to the forums, Oktanis. :)

I should have said that yesterday, but your post just depressed me - I absolutely can't be bothered discussing again the pros and cons of flitting off to be homeless in the woods. We've been through it all too many times.

Stick with the education, and do what Dominic suggests - take any job that's available, because that will keep homelessness at bay. Get any thoughts you may have of a romantic life in the woods being friends with the bears and the birds out of your head and look after yourself. If you're working, your education may take longer. That's better than being homeless by a long, long way. You're young enough to cope with the delay - after you've graduated you can say goodbye to the idea of taking any work you can get. If you try to get there too fast, you won't get there. That piece of paper that says you've finished college isn't just a scrap of paper - it's a key. Go for it, any way you can. Once you've got it, then you can get the kind of job you want and work just three days a week if you want to spend some time in the woods. You can afford to make that choice then, and still eat well. The woods will lose their charm pretty fast when you're out there feeling really hungry and all you can find to eat is three berries and a few leaves.

And if being kicked out by your parents is not inevitable - why not try harder to stay with them? I know this is not the kind of advice you were hoping for, but pack frames and the woods are just not a workable idea. It's the year 2006 - that stuff is now romantic fiction.

Thank you very much, i have until late june or early july to observe and think out my options. I now realise that hiking or backpacking wouldent exactly work all that well, i could do it if i had to but otherwise ill avoid it as much as possable, im going to be doing an apperenticeship, so that will allow me to make money while im at school :D

I look forward to furure posts here :)

Complete your education to gain as many opportunities as possible! Find a job as soon as you can and start saving for rent when you have to move out. Perhaps talk to your parents about staying on whilst doing further education and paying them rent? Good luck!
