Australia just won the Ashes, smashing England 5-0: news (http://www.smh.com.au/news/news/almost-over-as-wickets-tumble/2007/01/05/1167777253340.html)

This victory will be celebrated as historic in Australia, first time in 85 years we won 5-0.

Next time will be different, with 4 of Australia's best players and the coach retiring after this series.

The Australian captain mentioned the Barmy Army in his comments after, he should have called on the Aussies there to reply to the Barmy Army with a chant of: five nill five nill five nill five nill five nill five nill five nill five nill to the tune of Auld Lang Syne.

No comment Dom ... Humble pie and mince pies are not to my liking.

I think there may be plenty of humble pie for the Aussie team next year. Loosing those players and the coach is such a big deal.

I'm an avid cricket fan and winning the Ashes back 5-0 nearly erases the pain of losing the ashes in 2005.:D You're right though Dom it is the end of an era with 4 brilliant players retiring including 2 of the world's best bowlers. I think it's time though, we need to eject youth into the side and lets just hope we can hold a balance between youth and experience to continue our domination of the cricket world. Bring on the world cup.

:) I'm a die-hard Cricket fan, when it's on t.v, it wouldn't matter if a XXX porno was on, Cricket would still be the only thing on the tube! 20Twenty, ODI, and Tests are GREAT. I think I'd even watch "French Cricket" if it was on, provided we wern't KICKIN ASS on another channel!
I will say one thing though. Even though YOU are happy with the 5-0 Ashes last summer, I think that 06-07 summer was a sad :( time for AU Cricket. 4 of the best left the game!!! First Martin, then Langer, closely followed by McGath and Warne:eek::mad::(. Sure it was a great summer as far as the game goes, but it was a SHOCKIN SUMMER EY?

racism or sledging
what do you guys think about andrew symonds being called a monkey
is it sledging or racism...i reckon it's sledging...what else could you call symonds while he wears that stupid white zinc...even at night...sorry but he looks like a monkey ...
or al jolson...i don't think a player should be banned for this remark
australia is going for a record 17 straight test wins

Watching the 'An Aussie Goes Bolly' series on FOX8 looks like Indians just love their cricket so likely it's more towards the sledging end of the spectrum but obviously calling a black guy of any background a monkey is pretty ignorant. Hopefully hindsight will provide insight into what's 'cricket' in future.

Good to see the next match is going ahead Australia v. India.... hopefully the dodgy reffing will be solved.

I think that it's obviously sledging to say even once that somebody looks like a monkey, especially if it's racially based. But the aussie cricket team isn't at school anymore, they're big boys now and professional cricket players, I think that they should get on with playing cricket. If somebody is making derrogatory comments it says more about that person then the individual the comments are directed at. When I was watching "sunrise" this morning (I know, I know, but believe it or not it's the best thing on at 6am) somebody said that "when you criticise and point the finger at someone, remember three fingers are pointing back at you", I think that's pretty true. I hope that the issues with incorrect calls from referrees don't continue, but I also think that's part of the game, I don't like the "3rd Umpire" idea. But I think that the latest controversy isn't all bad, it has even me interested in cricket, most of the time I reckon it'd be more interesting watching the grass grow on the field ;)

yeah i guess some blackfellas would take offence but the indians are blacker than Symonds it's pretty hypocritical from both sides...

most blackfellas i know don't like Symonds he is arrogant and he is not aboriginal...they don't like the aussie team or the association because of it's racism...have you ever seen a real blackfella in the australian team...have you ever seen real blackfellas play cricket...they are awesome.....my sons have played cricket from the age of 10.....they still do at 30...we have experienced racism among the cricket clubs...and it continues in the higher grades run by cricket australia....it started way back in the early 1900s(i think) with Eddie Gilbert...he was from Qld..a fast bowler..bradman was scared of him and rated him the best in the world...but they said he couldn't bowl for aust...because they couldn't tell if he was chucking or not because his action was too fast....then there is the 'First Eleven'..the 1st team to ever tour england were blackfellas....it took until recently to even acknowledge them...due to Ian Chappell..and it still continues tday....
symonds is only in the team cos he is not a blackfella...Griegan made captain of the wallabies (rugby)...not aboriginal.....Mal Meninga made capt of the kangaroos (league)...he stated that he is not aboriginal he is a torres straight islander....he did a judas....most of the black players in league are not aboriginal they are tongan..NZ..or from some island etc....it's worse today than it was 40 yrs ago...very rarely does a real blackfella get selected to play for australia....or even district cricket..
but i still love cricket and i'll always go for the aussies...their are a lot of talented whitefellas that never got a go either because of the class thing.
cheers
