This conflict is really not about squatters nor homeless people! I am self homeless living in Copenhagen and have done so for years.

There are 2 groups involved in the conflict mentioned above: 1) Immigrants who just find pleasure in fighting, setting fire to cars, trash etc. .. and 2) Young people who like to dress in black and metal and need a party house.

If there ever were squatters in the mentioned house (ungdomshuset) it must have been many years ago. More about homelessness in Copenhagen... (http://vagabond.110mb.com/page.php?4)

Recently there was a new conflict in another very small district of Copenhagen about another building. This district, Christiania, is indeed squatted still, why they among other things doesn't have electricity for light outside. But it's kind of private and useless regarding homeless, who are offered shelter for free, why squatting is really unnessecary here. Christiania is the place to buy and sell hashies.

I cannot adjudicate as it has been some 20 years since I was last in Denmark.
But it disturbs me that there were riots at all. It simply doesn't fit with the memories I have of the place.

However I will note that the people in the photos posted do not look at all foreign, some look more Scandinavian than I do. Nor are they dressed in black/metal.

That said it's quite possible that it has history and they were university students or similar, I know the press can be very unreliable which is part of the reason I posted this story here.

Also an interesting looking website you posted, I'll look into properly when I have the free time.

I remember one time in the previous house "Ungdomshuset" mentioned above, that one of the drunk inside was pissing on the floor. Really a place to relax, I mean would u dare to do that anywhere? So a certain group of people obviously had a place to act as they needed.
In Denmark there are several places for homeless people to sit, eat, talk, watch television and to sleep. It have only been so for some decays now. But the community also have places with offers to mentally ill people. These offers include computers with internet connection and television with video; but not different from what the libraries offer! So do these places really offer anything except act as a meeting place to people with experience as patients on psychiatric hospitals? There are no places by the community for those, who need to cut themselves, piss on the floor or... And that is what they again demonstrate about now. Several hundreds of people got arrested.
According to history the park in Copenhagen called "Faelledparken" was only about 200 hundred years back a place where criminals were mutilated on wheels. Even prominent and known people. It was then an amusement to the folk to take a walk out in "the park" and watch the mutilated criminals. Maybe more exiting than television?
The human nature is a psykopat: when one like to se others suffer! It is usually a nasty criminals in american movie - serial killers - who stab their victims and enjoy them suffer. But who ever planned human life must enjoy suffering too! I am sure toilet and human race was created contemporarily, since one can't do without the other!

I am mostly homeless because since I am registed as insane in Denmark, I got no rights like before. Now any neighbour can phone the police and call them about me acting weird, the police will arrest me for nothing, since it will be up to the psychiatric doctors to observe me for a period to conclude whether or not I should be left independent while I have to eat medication all that time.
