Student Design Project

I am a design student in Brisbane with a project to design a temporary, modular unit specifically for homeless youths up to age 25.

The units will be for sleeping/shelter purposes only - accommodating one person each, to be located in areas (yet to be determined) close to toilet/shower facilities, mobile food vans etc. Similar to the crash bed concept - except its main aim is to provide temporary accommodation for a maximum of 2 nights only.

I am therefore seeking assistance regarding the needs of youths who will be utilising these specific facilities, as follows:

* what would youths most likely look for/want/need regarding temporary accommodation of this type (ie shelter, security, comfort, protection etc?)

* what type of belongings would youths generally be carrying with them? (to assess on-site storage purposes)

* what is most important to youths with this type of proposal? (is there anything specific you require/need/want?)

* what type of access would youths want (ie certain times of day/night, or a preference for full access 24hrs a day [to a maximum of 2 days] or only for sleeping purposes etc).

* in order to assess a proposed site, what areas around Brisbane would youths generally go/hang-out during the day and evening (ie proximity to city, transport, privacy etc)? Any preferred areas?

I would be extremely grateful for any feedback/information etc in relation to the above request, as soon as possible.

Thank you very much!

Kind regards
Meredith
