 well i would like to firstly say hi to everyone, and please feel free to post in here even if you've never been homeless.. i value all opinions, big small, right or wrong (not that there are any right or wrong ones).. i have been off the streets for 3 1/2 months now, on my own, working and in a long term relationship ( just over a year together ), and could use some advice about day to day stuff. i would also be happy to give advice about getting clear of the street life up to where i am at... have fun, and play nice :D:D:D:D:p

Honestly, life on the streets ain't that bad.
Provided you have a few things covered...

1: You need a SAFE place to squat, and safe will be either of two things depending on what makes YOU FEEL SAFE. 1a: Either with someone, or people you trust, 1b: or completely on your own, and don't tell anyone where you are. Now the later will only work for people who are relitavely healthy, and not taking part in any dangerous activities (i.e. using hard drugs, binge drinking, ect), and now thats it's getting cooler, you'll have to make sure you've got plenty of blankets and shit so that you don't freeze :(, which brings me to my next point...
2: Comfort.:) You need to have cover from the elements (i.e. wind, rain, and the cold if possible). I kept a plastic sheet (it was a sheet used to cover stuff while you painted around it) in my kit.
3: Make sure that your staying somewhere legal. You don't wanna get done by The Jacks for Trespassing.
4: If you can afford it, or if you mannage to "aquire" it, get a good bag that will hold all your sleeping gear like swag, blankets and sheets/sleeping bag, and pillow if you have them. This will eliminate the need to have to stash your gear each day and risk loosing it. .

I got heaps more sugestions, but time is against me today, so I'll write more another time...

Stay safe, and God Bless,
Chris.

Welcome to the forums Chris. Finding a good squat is pretty easy in Brisbane but in bigger cities where real estate isn't vacant long makes it a lot harder close to the city.

Excellent, you have thought of the most important, necessities one needs when on the streets. Our biggest problem here is when it's raining, but most of the time we have nice weather, California!

Good Luck, hope you get out of your situation, I am sure you will when you are ready!

If I can be of assistance let me know, Skid Row is a busy spot, especially at this time, we have many new developers waiting to get in!
