Hey Foggy,
Thats great that you have a place to call home.
I am not sure what area you live in but regardless perhaps you could join your local community centre as they always run groups - and have drop in centres etc - get involved in volunteer work - just some suggestions for you to meet people.
Hey and jump on the forum you are never alone here !!
Having a home and having somewhere to live foggy are two different things.
An abode is something that can be bought and sold ... but a home is something that takes time (and money) to put together.
Your comments are very valid as I know from many ex streeties that have given up street life to move into their own place. Here in London I know several that have walked away from accommodation after a few months because they cannot tolerate the solitude .. and cannot cope with all the financial obligations of being housed.
Lonliness, social exclusion, poverty, boredom, isolation and a feeling of abandoment seems to be the most common complaints. I guess there is no easy answer to those, and individuals cope with them in their own individual ways .. or not at all.
Thirty years on the streets is a long time foggy .. Again, in London we have a few of those long term street homeless .. One or two have had several places to live over the years, but have come out again for the reasons I've already mentioned.
As for how to become a part of society .. ? Society is made up of individuals like yourself and it's easy to think that they are all doing alright, but that is not always the case. Sometimes the most populated places are the lonliest for many people.
Never the less, welcome to the forums .. I'm sure with all your experience you will be of great value to the forums .. and I wish you success in settling down in your own place.
