The best gift you got while homeless

What were the best things you got given to you while you were homeless?

I remember getting a toothbrush and toothpaste from a youth service I go to. I was so happy!!! It seems like such a small thing now. :)

Anyhow I Was Doin The Rounds Downtown By The Capitol Bldg Digging Some Pop Cans Outta The Trash And A Lady Asked What I Was Doing I Said I Was Homeless And This Was My Main Source Of Income She Asked Me How Much I Get In A Day I Said Depends Its A Combination Of Hard Work As Well As Luck

Now The Good Part She Told Me Her Husband Died 5 -years Ago And Her Garage Was Full Of Junk And Said If I Cleaned It Out For Her I Was Welcome To Keep Anything I Wanted

I have gotten that much when I've be homeless, there used to be a chinese takeaway place that would put all their leftovers on a park bench next to their shop when they closed each night, we'd pick 'em up and hand them out to homeless people, especially the older people who didn't have access to youth services for food, and a coffee club used to give us so many sandwiches and rolls all the time. That was pretty good. I got so many personal hygiene packs it wasn't funny, so have enough toothpaste and soap to last a lifetime. When I worked at maccas I'd tell the other streeties when I was on shift and give them free food when they came up. And one time when I was at a Salvation army cricket match they had lots of stuff that had just been donated and told us to take anything we wanted, I got some linen and pillows, but I also got two salt and pepper shakers shaped like feet that say "I walked my feet off in Brisbane" - bout right too for streeties.

I got a lot of bmmed ciggies and lighters, but some of the best things were like, a ratty old blanket :) and this one awesome guy gave me his jacket. there was also a few food places that gave me and some mates free food, or let us hang out the back of there place for the night

I remember my mate giving me a jacket. I basically lived in it for half of winter - it went almost to my knees, was real warm and had big sleeves that were really handy if I had to shoplift some food and stuff. I don't know what happened to it, maybe I threw it out when I purged my cupboard of 'homeless clothes' (the clothes I wore while homeless that were more for warmth than style)
